Last weekend Jyl and I spent the weekend at the Rifle River Recreation Area outside of Rose City MI. Along with three of our friends we rented a rustic cabin and spent the weekend playing outside during the day and playing board games at night. Since this was the only weekend so far this weekend with any real snow we lucked out and had beautiful scenery along with great weather. It was a amazing weekend all around.
The Ypsilanti Non-Motorized Advisory committee doesn’t usually warrant much attention from the media. While I don’t want to underrate our work I am well aware that it is generally less than exciting. As such it was a nice surprise to have a visitor from the Ypsilanti Courier at our last meeting. It was business as usual and we didn’t discuss anything more exciting than our latest efforts to complete the Border to Border trail through Ypsi but we still ended up with a nice article by Sean Dalton which you can read here. Many thanks to Sean for taking the time to listen in on our meeting.
I’ve always been an enthusiastic cyclist. I grew up riding with my dad and even when I moved out on my own continued riding solo or with friends. My girlfriend and I ride together quite a bit and from time to time we’ll go on weekend tours and ride from campground to campground. In the last couple years my love bicycling has begun to express itself in another way. Advocacy. I’ve begun working with a couple different organizations which promote biking around Ypsilanti. One is Bike Ypsi, which is a loose-knit group of riders who organize community rides. The other, more formal, undertaking has been joining the City of Ypsilanti Non-Motorized Advisory Committee or, familiarly, NoMoCo. I was invited to join this committee by its head Bob, who I know from Bike Ypsi.
